Sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners enhance the ability of the important components of cleaners to clean more effectively.
For cleaning purposes, consider that there are two kinds of soiling – water-soluble and non-water-soluble. Dirt and mud are examples of water-soluble soiling. By itself, water can loosen and remove dirt and mud from fabric.
Examples of non-water-soluble soils are underarm stains, food oils, car oil and grease and so on.
By itself, water cannot remove soils that will not dissolve in water. Water plus a detergent “surfactant” can remove both water-soluble and non-water-soluble soils. The action of water plus the detergent surfactants loosen both kinds of soils and disperse them into the water.
This is where sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners come in…
For example, water can contain calcium salts due to being underground and in contact with limestone and other rock material. These calcium salts make the water “hard” or high in calcium salts – this kind of water interferes with the cleaning actions of detergents and cleaning agents. Detergents are more effective if they act in an alkaline environment, not acidic.
With the addition of sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners in the cleaner, an alkaline situation is created and the action of the detergents and cleaners will be improved.
In other words, water softeners like sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners that are added to the wash or rinse will inactivate hard water minerals. Since detergents work better in “soft water”, products like sodium carbonate soap cleaners increase the cleaning power of detergents.
Sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners are called “builders” – substances that reduce the hardness of water, which in turn increases the effectiveness of cleaners.
Sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners can also help keep removed soil from being re-deposited during washing. If removed soiling particles are re-deposited during the cleaning process, graying of the fabric over time will occur.
Are sodium carbonate soap cleaners environmentally friendly?
In general, sodium carbonate soap cleaners and sodium hydroxide soap cleaners are environmentally friendly.
However, many of the chemicals commonly found in cleaning products are NOT environmentally friendly. In fact, many of the substances are toxic! Toxic to the environment and toxic to humans!
Examples of chemicals commonly found in cleaning products are – phosphorus, ammonia, naphthalene, phenol and sodium nitilotriacetate. One of the most environmentally UNFRIENDLY chemicals is sodium hypochlorite, the active agent in chlorine bleach.
Today, more and more savvy and informed consumers are choosing natural cleaning products instead of cleaners that contain the toxic petrochemicals commonly used in cleaning products.
Natural cleaning products are price-competitive, they don’t pollute the environment and they are much healthier and safer to use at home.
